FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
This program works to make required material access easy. Read through our FAQs for additional details about the program and how it affects you.
Pay One Price is for everyone taking a Main Campus Undergraduate Course, even if the course is delivered online.
All graduate students and undergraduate students who are enrolled in Arizona International, Arizona International Direct, Arizona Online, Community Campus, Distance, Phoenix and Southern Arizona will continue to utilize the Inclusive Access Program or purchase print books.
*Although uncommon, if you are a student taking an undergraduate Main Campus course and are also taking a graduate course or an undergraduate course through Arizona International, Arizona International Direct, Arizona Online, Community Campus, Distance, Phoenix, and Southern Arizona, you will have required textbooks and expenses for both Pay One Price and Inclusive Access.
Graduate students taking an undergraduate Main Campus class are included in Pay One Price. Depending on the courses being taken, a graduate student may have required textbooks and expenses for both Pay One Price and Inclusive Access.
Digital is the default format for Pay One Price, if available. Digital formats improve accessibility, are conveniently delivered to students through D2L, and don't require students to pick up print copies from the Campus Store. Faculty may still request print textbooks. Students can also choose to opt out of Pay One Price to receive a refund and buy any format they prefer.
With Pay One Price, students pay a predictable flat rate or can choose to opt out for the full term (fall, spring, or summer per month). Alternatively, Inclusive Access pricing varies by title and students opt out by course.
The biggest difference between Pay One Price and Inclusive Access is that for Pay One Price, the single cost covers as many instructors required course material items as needed and may include some print materials.
Financial aid can be used to cover the flat rate for Pay One Price in fall and spring semesters. If students qualify for summer financial aid, it can be used to cover Pay One Price.
REQUIRED titles and lab manuals with an International Standard Book Number (ISBN) are included in Pay One Price. Courseware delivered in partnership with VitalSource and Class Notes are included too.
Software, certification testing materials and course supplies, such as lab coats, goggles, art supplies, Scantrons, examination books, etc. are not included in Pay One Price but students can purchase them from the Campus Store.
To access your digital content/textbooks for any given course, simply log in to the course page in your D2L account.
- Go to d2l.arizona.edu
- Select the “Content” link at the top of the page
- Select the “Pay One Price and Inclusive Access Materials” module (this could have been renamed by your instructor so look for another module)
- Select the “Textbooks and Opt Out” link (this could have been renamed too)
Yes, for certain materials. Access to content is controlled by each publisher and may range from 49 days to lifetime access.
Most eBooks can be downloaded to a device and read after the term is over by using the free Bookshelf app. Ebooks that are a part of a homework manager or courseware are only usable for the length of the course they were originally provided; unless otherwise noted, access to these materials expires once the course is over.
Enrolled students have online access to library-licensed eBooks. Depending on publisher restrictions, many library-licensed eBooks can be fully or partially downloaded for offline use and kept perpetually. See the Libraries' eBooks FAQ.
Students keep any physical textbooks they receive under Pay One Price. However, if they picked up a print title, then decide to opt out or drop a course with a print title before the refund deadline, they will need to return the print title in the same condition.
Not necessarily. Pay One Price is a digital-preferred course materials program. If a required course material isn't available digitally, a printed physical copy will be available for pick up.
- Go to d2l.arizona.edu
- Log in with your NetID
- Select one of your courses
- Go to the Content tab
- Locate “Pay One Price and Inclusive Access Materials” module on the left-hand side. (You may have to scroll to the bottom of the page). (this could have been renamed by your instructor so look for another module)
- Click on “Textbooks and Opt Out”. This will take you to your VitalSource portal that shows all required materials. (this could have been renamed by your instructor)
- Each item has an icon that shows “Digital” or “Print”.
Required print books are available for pick up at the UA Campus Stores' flagship location in the Student Union Memorial Center one week before the course begins through the 10th day of class.
Because Pay One Price is digital-preferred, eBook access through D2L is easy for students who change classes before the refund deadline. Typically, within 24 - 48 hours, you should have access to your newly added course's digital materials.
If you add a class with a print book, see “How can I receive my required print textbooks that are not available in digital format?
If you drop a class with a print book, see “Do I need to return my print book?”

Check your email for email confirmation from no-reply@verbasoftware.com with the subject line “YOUR PREFERENCE TO OPT-OUT HAS BEEN RECORDED” Until you receive this email confirmation, you have not completed opting out.
Your Bursar account will be credited within 7-10 business days.
Opting out of Pay One Price applies to ALL your classes and is not done on a class-by-class basis. It's important to note that opting out of Pay One Price does NOT result in being dropped from your classes.
If you choose to opt out of Pay One Price, you are responsible for purchasing the required materials on your own. You will not be automatically switched to the Inclusive Access program.
For courses requiring courseware (such as McGraw Hill Connect, Cengage MindTap, Pearson MyLab, Mastering, etc.) for homework or tests/quizzes, consult your instructor to determine if the courseware is mandatory. Courseware is covered in Pay One Price's flat rate. However, students who opt out will lose access after the opt-out date and will need to procure the required courseware independently. Purchasing courseware directly from the publisher may involve additional costs (and may require a credit card), so consider this when deciding whether to opt out of Pay One Price.
If you have 7W2 or other courses starting later in the semester, you'll need to purchase those materials separately as well.
Yes, but only until the semester's refund deadline. The upcoming opt-out and refund deadlines are:
Fall: September 8, 2024
If that deadline hasn't passed, you can opt back into Pay One Price by visiting D2L.arizona.edu.
The flat rate for Pay One Price will be credited to your Bursar account within 7 to 10 business days of successfully opting out.
Students can purchase most individual books and courseware by going to https://arizona.vitalsource.com and searching by ISBN for the required materials. You will find the ISBN on the course materials that are listed in D2L. We recommend searching by ISBN rather than title to ensure you are purchasing the edition of the textbook or courseware that your instructor requested. A credit card is required.
A print book can be purchased at the Campus Store at current retail prices. Or students can buy print textbooks from the retailer of their choice.
If you dropped a class that required a print book or opted out of Pay One Price before the refund deadline, please ensure you return any printed materials, in their original condition, within 10 days to avoid being charged the full new price for replacing the print book.
You must return printed materials to the Campus Store textbook department. Failure to pick up the assigned printed books/materials by the 10th day of class will result in forfeiture, and they will be returned to the publisher.
You will continue to work with the Disability Resource Center (DRC). If you have questions about accessibility and using digital content or need an academic accommodation, please contact the DRC for assistance.
The price per semester is the same for full-time and part-time students. Even some part-time students will find the flat rate price beneficial for their required materials. Others may decide that opting out is the best option for them.
Pay One Price is a flat rate of $70 per each summer month as classes start. To receive a refund, you must opt out each month for any classes starting in that month.
If enrolled in classes starting in May the flat rate is $70, the refund deadline is May 20, 2024.
If enrolled in classes starting in June the flat rate is $70, the refund deadline is June 10, 2024
If enrolled in classes starting in July the flat rate is $70, the refund deadline is July 15, 2024
For students enrolled in classes which start in multiple months, you will see a “CampusStore PayOnePrice Crse Ma” item for each month on your Bursar account.
If you're not enrolled, you don't have to opt out.
